Before the UFC Macau: "Franklin vs. Le" main card kicked off on Fuel TV today (Sat., Nov. 10, 2012) from the Cotai Arena in Cotai, Macau, China, a three fight preliminary card took place on Facebook.
The final fight of the preliminary card was a bantamweight battle between The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) season 12 veteran Alex Caceres and late replacement Japanese grappler Motonobu Tezuka.
Tezuka started strong, taking Caceres down early on, but he couldn't keep Caceres on his back as he was either stood up or Caceres would work his way to his feet after failing to find a proper submission hold.
Tezuka continued to work his ground game, attempting a few submissions in the second round, but Caceres began to get more comfortable, being aided by a quick stand-up from the referee and began scoring big with his strikes.
The highlight of the fight was a double punch from Caceres as he really began to loosen up and the third round was all "Bruce Leroy," as he battered Tezuka with punches and kicks, possibly even breaking the Japanese late replacement's orbital bone in the process.
In the end, two judges gave the fight 30-27 for Caceres while one idiot judge scored it 29-28 for Tezuka, granting the TUF veteran the split decision victory.
In flyweight action, Brazilian John Lineker and Japanese 125-er Yasuhiro Urishitani duked it out in a "Fight of the Night" contender.
Urishitani got off to a good start, utilizing his range, mixing up kicks and avoiding Lineker's power by darting in and out effectively. That didn't last as Lineker started to properly gauge the distance, dropping Urishitani at the end of the first round to even things out.
In rounds two and three, Lineker's aggression increased dramatically as he began to swarm Urishitani and overwhelm his defenses. Time and time again, Lineker maneuvered his Japanese foe towards the fence and then he'd unload heavy combinations both to the head and body, even leaving himself completely exposed at times because he didn't fear Urishitani's power.
Lineker finished strong, nearly putting Urishitani away with massive punches, kicks and knees while avoiding late takedown attempts, something Urishitani should have been mixing in from the beginning, and he would go on to win a pretty easy unanimous decision.
In the first fight of the night, middleweights Riki Fukuda and Tom DeBlass put on a pretty entertaining show. DeBlass started strong, utilizing good speed and scoring with his strikes on the feet, catching Fukuda off guard. Fukuda tried to balance out DeBlass' striking with takedowns to keep the round close.
In the second and third rounds, Fukuda made some solid adjustments as he swarmed DeBlass with pressure to take away the New Jersey native's speed, pushing him into the fence to work dirty boxing and knees as well as mixing things up with big takedowns and ground and pound.
DeBlass faded as the fight wore on and Fukuda began to take over the striking battle on the feet, easily winning the last two rounds to take a unanimous decision.
