Invicta FC 3 results and LIVE fight coverage for 'Penne vs Sugiyama' TONIGHT (Oct. 6)

Invicta Fighting Championships returns TONIGHT (Oct. 6, 2012) to Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kansas, with some high level women's fights.

Headlining the main event of Invicta FC 2 will be an atomweight title bout between American Jessica Penne and undefeated Japanese fighter Naho Sugiyama..

Also on tap are some other extremely intriguing 135 pound bouts which feature fighters like previous headliner Shayna Baszler, the powerful Sarah D'Alelio, head hunter Kaitlin Young and brawler Leslie Smith.

Some extremely talented flyweights will be vying for a title shot as legend Tara LaRosa battles Brazilian Vanessa Porto and Irish bomber Aisling Daly takes on Miletich Fighting System's Barb Honchak.

105 lb title.: Jessica Penne vs. Naho Sugiyama

Round one: Penne is much longer than Sugiyama and she's trying to utilize her length early with a jab. Penne catches a kick from Sugiyama and scores a takedown. Sugiyama retains guard but Penne passes to half and drops some right hands to the body and then some left hands. Sugiyama has one of Penne's legs on lockdown. Sugiyama works her way back to her feet and gets kneed but she can't escape Penne's powerful clinch, absorbing more knees until the end of the round. 10-9 Penne

Round two: Sugiyama throws a leg kick but eats a series of jabs from Penne. Leg kick from Sugiyama and then another but Penne counters with more straight punches and a push kick. Right hand from Sugiyama and Penne attacks with heavy knees from the clinch. Penne snaps Sugiyama to the ground but Sugiyama has strong position and stays on top. Penne throws her legs up and she's extremely close to a traingle. Sugiyama stacks Penne up and now the Triangle choke looks like it's locked in. Penne has the triangle locked in and Sugiyama tries to escape, sitting up but she finally taps out. Nice!

135 lbs.: Shayna Baszler vs. Sarah D'Alelio

Round one: They clinch and Baszler throws some short knees and an uppercut. Heavy leg kick from D'Alelio but Baszler takes her down with a trip. Baszler is full-on attack mode on the ground and it looks like Baszler is thinking twister but she gives up on it to take D'Alelio's back fully. Baszler gives up a hook again and she pounds away with punches to the body. Baszler is continuing to go to work with elbows to the body and D'Alelio sits up, pushing her against the fence. D'Alelio is in full defense-mode and she's bleeding from her left eye. D'Alelio is trying to escape but Baszler is glued to her back and now she's dropping punches. Nasty heel strikes from Baszler to D'Alelio's calf and she stomps on her leg and drops punches at the end of the round. 10-9 Baszler

Round two: Baszler opens with a knee and D'Alelio throws a heavy right hand but slips. Baszler pounces and attacks with heavy ground and pound. She's going to work and Baszler takes D'Alelio's back, sinking in a rear naked choke without hooks. D'Alelio has no escape and she's forced to tap. Damn! Baszler looked so good here.

135 lbs.: Leslie Smith vs. Kaitlin Young

Round one: Both ladies clinch early but they separate. Smith throws a huge head kick and then a flurry of punches as they clinch. Knee from Young and then a big kick but Young takes her down. Young immediately attacks with a submission but Smith seems otu of danger so far as both ladies are tied up on the canvas. Knee to the shoulder from Smith and she sits back, spinning into side control. Young brings her legs up for a reverse triangle on Smith and she's got her twisted up but Smith breaks free and she drops several kicks at her legs from above. Smith comes back down into Young's guard and she drops some heavy punches to the head and body. Young is trying to throw her legs up and be active from bottom but Smith smashes her with a nice elbow. Left elbow from Smith and she passes to half guard and drops punches. Young is hunting for an armbar but Smith powers it on with punches as time expires in the round. 10-9 Smith

Round two: Young initiates a clinch early and they circle each other. Slashing elbow from both ladies and Smith throws some nice knees. Big flurry of strikes from Smith and Young attempts a takedown but Smith rolls for a kneebar. Young defends but Smith is sticking with it and after the scramble, Smith lands on top. Smith drops punches but Young is attacking with an armbar but Smith passes to side control. Smith has a mounted crucifix and she's blasting Young with right hands. Young can't escape the position and she's eating a huge bevy of right hands as the ref puts a stop to it. Wow! Great performance by Leslie Smith!

125 lbs.: Aisling Daly vs. Barb Honchak

Round one: Daly is showcasing some unorthodox footwork early, constantly switching stances and flashing jabs from opposite hands. Push kick from Daly and Honchak responds with a heavy leg kick of her own. Nice left hand and both ladies fire off big bombs in the pocket before backing off. Collar tie from Honchak and she scores with some terrific dirty boxing before Daly escapes. Right hand from Daly and Honchak fires off a combination that scores. They trade heavy right hands and Honchak gets the better of the exchange. Heavy knees from Honchak followed by elbows and Daly initiates a clinch but Honchak reverses the position. Throw attempt from Daly fails and Honchak spends the last minute punishing her with inside strikes. 10-9 Honchak

Round two: Daly opens with some aggressive punches but Honchak counters nicely. They evenly trade heavy shots on the inside before breaking up. Daly jumps guard but Honchak backs away and they go back to standing. Daly fires off a combination but Honchak drags her to the ground. Daley is attacking and thinking about a Kimura but Honchak takes her back and has both hooks in. Daly is in big trouble now with three minutes left in the round. Daly hip escapes to half guard but shes' eating some heavy elbows from Honchak. Daly gives up her back again and Honchak has her back with both hooks in. Daly is defending for now and she tries to turn into Honchak but Honchak denies her, Honchak passes to full mount then back mount and she's dropping punches. One minute left in the round and if Daly just covers up she could get stopped. Honchak rides out the round from top position. 10-8 Honchak. That was pure dominance.

Round three: Daly aggressively steps forward and scores a takedown but Honchak has an active guard and is back on her feet within seconds. Now Honchak is in control and she scores with a few ight hands. They trade blows and Honchak takes her down after Daly leaves her back exposed on the feet. Heavy punches from Honchak and she's hunting for a crucifix from side control. Daly hip escapes and Honchak keeps dropping punches but she backs off and lets her back up. They're both circling now and Honchak lands a huge knee. Honchak has one hook in and now both. Daley is trying to escape and she retains half guard. Now full guard from Daly and her legs are up high but we're in the final minute and Daly needs a miracle. Honchak backs off and they reset on the feet with 25 seconds. Daley and Honchak land big strikes, trading heavy blows in the pocke and Honchak scores with an elbow and a pair of heavy right hands as time expires. 10-9 Honchak

125 lbs.: Tara LaRosa vs. Vanessa Porto

Round one: Porto takes control of the cage center and she clocks LaRosa with a huge overhand right. LaRosa can't afford to keep standing and trading on the feet. Takedown attempt from LaRosa is stuffed and Porto fires off an inside leg kick. Big right hand lands for Porto and she's hurt. LaRosa attempts a takedown and she drops to her guard. Porto lets her back up and she's in complete control. Another right hand scores for Porto. Big leg kick lands for Porto and LaRosa responds with a left jab. Overhand right again clocks LaRosa and she's on her back once more. Porto becks LaRosa back to her feet and she lands a big inside leg kick which staggers LaRosa. Another leg kick and LaRosa is limping. Right hand scores for Porto but LaRosa seems to have warmed up a bit. LaRosa backs Porto off with a right hand as time expires. 10-9 Porto

Round two: LaRosa has a bounce to her step early and she flashes her left jab. Heavy leg kick from Porto and she scores with an overhand right. Huge leg kick knocks LaRosa down and Porto lets her back up. Porto is definitely looking scary here. Wild overhand right misses for LaRosa and Porto scores on the inside leg kick. Right hand lands for LaRosa and she eats two more leg kicks. Two more leg kicks stagger LaRosa but LaRosa has picked up the pace here. LaRosa presses forward and she tags Porto but they reset and Porto scores again to the leg. Another snapping leg kick from Porto and LaRosa is trying to step up the aggression. Knee from LaRosa and Porto again with a leg kick. Huge right hand from Porto hurts LaRosa but Porto backs off after thinking about closing in. Takedown attempt from LaRosa is stuffed with ease and time expires. 10-9 Porto

Round three: Right hand from Porto scores to get things started. Leg kick from Porto and then a right hand. Telegraphed shot from LaRosa is sprawled easily. Big leg kick from Porto ans she stuffs another takedown. Left hand from LaRosa. Big right hand wobbles LaRosa and then a leg kick. She's in trouble but Porto isn't putting her away. LaRosa's lead leg is gone. Left jab from Porto and she stuffs a takedown from a desperate LaRosa. Right hand from Porto and LaRosa nearly scores a takedown but can't get it. 20 seconds left and LaRosa needs a miracle. LaRosa wings some hooks at Porto but they come up short as the fight comes to an end. 10-9 Porto

Final Result: Vanessa Porto defeats Tara LaRosa via unanimous decision (30-27 x3)

135 lbs.: Cat Zingano vs. Raquel Pennington

Round one: Zingano closes the distance quickly and throws some wicked knees to the legs and body of Pennington. More knees from Zingano and Pennington is purely on the defensive. Zingana scores a trip takedown but Pennington pops back to her feet. Pennington reverses and throws a few knees of her own but Zingano goes right back to work. Very grueling first round here. Zingano goes high with a knee and grazes Pennington's face. Zingano is wearing Pennington down with her pressure on the fence. Takedown from Zingano in the final 10 seconds and she lands some ground and pound before the bell. 10-9 Zingano

Round two: They trade short strikes early and Zingano scores with some heavy kicks. Zingano again pins Pennington against the cage and she's unloading with a flurry of knees. Trip from Zingano but Pennington immediately pops back to her feet. Lateral drop fromZingano and she's in side control with knee to belly. Pennington fends off the mount attempt but Zingano is all over her. Now Zingano passes to full mount and immediately transitions to Pennington's back. They hand fight briefly but Zingano sinks in the rear naked choke and forces the tap.

Final Result: Cat Zingano defeats Raquel Pennington via submission (rear naked choke) at 3:32 of round two

105 lbs.: Michelle Waterson vs. Lacey Schuckman

Round one: Both ladies trade kicks early and Schuckman presses forward but Waterson blasts her with a right hand that drops her. Schuckman adjusts and takes Waterson down but Waterson has her in a guillotine choke. Schuckman leverages her way free and she passes to full mount. She's got Waterson flattened out and she's dropping punches while hunting for the choke. Schuckman almost has the choke but gives up on it. Waterson is still in big trouble. Waterson escapes the bad position but Schuckman is still on top in full guard. Waterson puts her guard up high and she puts Schuckman in an armbar! Schuckman escapes the position and now she's on top! She gets to her feet and they reset. Schuckman presses forward aggressively and she's got Waterson pinned against the fence. Big knee from Waterson at the end of the round. 10-9 Schuckman

Round two: Schuckman presses forward but Waterson scores with some wicked knees to back her off. Waterson lands some more kicks but an axe kick is caught by Schuckman and she grets pressed into the fence. Schuckman attempts a shoulder throw but Waterson stays on her back on the ground. Schuckman turns into Waterson and retains half guard, holding Waterson down to avoid taking damage. Waterson drops a few short right hands. Not much action from Waterson as Schuckman is messign with her posture quite a bit and now Schuckman has retained the closed guard. Waterson breaks free and postures up with 10 seconds blasting her with huge ground and pound until the bell rings. 10-9 Waterson

Round three: Waterson on her bicycle early as Schuckman presses forward. Short kicks from Waterson and she just misses with a spinning wheel kick. Still anyone's round and Schuckman lunges forward with a flurry but can't score with anything. She clinches but Waterson throws a knee and resets in the cage center. Right hand from Waterson but she's not following up. Schuckman responds with a nice leg kick and she's hunting for a throw but Waterson avoids it. Schuckman has Waterson pressed into the cage, however and she's hunting for a takedown. Pair of elbows from Waterson but Schuckman drags her to the ground. Waterson needs to try to submit her here or she could lose the round. Waterson sweeps and she lands directly into mount! She attempts work for a submission but Schuckman lands on top. 30 seconds left and one of these ladies needs to make a statement. Big head kick scores for Waterson and a pair of kicks land again. Front kick to the face lands for Waterson and Schuckman presses her into the cage. 10-9 Waterson

Final Result: Michelle Waterson def. Lacey Schuckman via split decision

145 lbs.: Julia Budd vs. Danielle West

Round one: West closes the distance looking for the clinch and a takedown but Budd fends her off for now and takes the inside position, cross-facing and throwing some knees. West briefly jumps guard but thinks twice about it. They exchange knees and West attempts a throw but Budd reverses her and scores a takedown. Budd immediately passes to mount and she's dropping big strikes. West is eating huge elbows and she's bleeding and the ref steps in and puts a stop to it.

Final Result: Julia Budd def. Danielle West via TKO at 2:32 of round one
