Glover Teixeira is one of the best prospects in the UFC light heavyweight division, and he proved it tonight (Oct. 13, 2012) against a very tough and resilient Fabio Maldonado in their UFC 153 main card bout at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Teixeira started strong, landing heavy blows and wobbling the iron-chinned Maldonado, taking him down and brutalizing the former Brazilian boxer with monstrous elbows and punches from full mount. Somehow, some way, Maldonado survived, even gritting his way through an arm triangle attempt from Teixeira that looked deep.

After working his way back to his feet, Maldonado actually got some offense in during the final seconds of the first round, hurting Teixeira with a pair of left hands that had the much-hyped light heavyweight on roller skates.

Teixeira wisely closed the distance in the second round, scoring a takedown and going to work with punches and elbows from top position.

Maldonado was a bloody mess, and after getting the fight stood up, he ate more brutal blows from Teixeira at the end of the round. By that point, the doctor had seen enough and called a stop to the fight.

Barring the one slip up at the end of the first round, Teixeira looks just as dangerous as he's been hyped up to be. It'll be interesting to see how he performs against some of the elite fighters in the division next time around.

What do you think of his potential?
