Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight and Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 2 contestant Mike Whitehead was sentenced to one-to-four years in prison earlier today (Jan. 19, 2012) by the Clark County District Court, where Whitehead pleaded guilty to sexual assault charges last September.

The News Tribune broke the story earlier this afternoon.

"Iron" Mike, responsible for $2,400 in restitution, will be also be forced to register as a sex offender and face "lifetime supervision" from the courts.

Whitehead turned himself in back on April 14, 2011, and was subsequently charged with sexual assault, attempted sexual assault and open and gross lewdness. Whitehead posted $14,000 bail and was released that same day.

Las Vegas Sun has the gory details:

The woman told police she and a friend had gone to Whitehead's home for a barbecue, then after drinking, decided not to drive home, according to a police report.

The report said Whitehead told the women they could sleep in his bed.

One of the women said she awoke to find her pants down and Whitehead having sex with her in the bed. Although she repeatedly demanded that he stop, he didn't for about three minutes, according to the police report.

Whitehead avoided trial, and charges for possession of marijuana, after reaching a deal with prosecutors on Sept. 12, 2011, and will now finish the terms of his plea-bargain behind bars.

Stay tuned for more information on Whitehead's case as it becomes available.
