Nick Diaz today decided to no-show the UFC 137 press conference today (Sept. 7), the second in a row that he decided to skip out on his promotional duties. UFC President Dana White remarked that because Diaz told him to his face that he would do what he's supposed to and failed to do so, he has been removed from his title fight against Georges St. Pierre at UFC 137 on Oct. 29 in Las Vegas.
Stepping up in his stead will be Carlos Condit, who will be removed from his co-main event bout against B.J. Penn that was scheduled to take place on the same night. There is currently no plan in place for Penn but White is "working on it."
Condit has strung together four consecutive wins since his loss in his Octagon debut, including consecutive "Knockout of the Night" winning performances. That, combined with Diaz running amok, is enough to earn him a shot at the division crown.
St. Pierre accepted the bout with no problem and commented that he feels Condit is a tougher opponent for him and he's a better fighter than Diaz. Nonetheless, he will move ahead with fighting a man he is loosely affiliated with in the Greg Jackson camp.
Diaz is out, Condit is in.
What's your reaction to all this, Maniacs? Surprised that UFC was so quick to send the Stockton slugger packing from the UFC 137 main event?
