The injury bug hasn't finished getting its bites in just yet.
Adding to the list of ailing fighters is Leonard Garcia, who was booked to return to action on Aug. 14 at UFC on Versus 5 against Alex Caceres in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
With "Bad Boy" out, "Bruce Leroy" needed a new opponent and matchmaker Joe Silva was quick to find him one. From the UFC.com report:
"Leonard Garcia is out with an injury, so newly signed prospect Jim Hettes is taking his place vs Alex "Bruce Leroy" Caceres on August 14 in Milwaukee," said White. "Hettes is undefeated as a pro and has finished all opponents by submission. Caceres has also never gone the distance. Both fighters have verbally agreed to the bout."
Caceres was last in action in a losing effort against Mackens Semerzier at UFC Fight Night 24 back in March. It was his first fight since leaving the Ultimate Fighter (TUF) house. He's getting another chance and perhaps it's in his favor that it won't be as tough as originally advertised.
Or will it?
Jimmy Hettes is a jiu-jitsu king who has worked his way through the upper northeast regional scene by choking out "kids" in smaller organizations.
In fact, as noted by White previously, his 8-0 record career record as a professional is impressive if for nothing else the fact that he tapped, napped or snapped all eight different guys.
He's got a big chance to make a splash in his Octagon debut.
UFC on Versus 5 will feature a welterweight war between Dan Hardy, who just may be making his last stand, and Chris Lytle. In addition, 155-pound wrecking ball Jim Miller will continue his quest for the lightweight title when he battles Ben Henderson in the co-main event.
Rounding out the main card are match-ups pitting Donald Cerrone vs. Charles Oliveira and Amir Sadollah vs. Duane Ludwig.
