Strikeforce will hold perhaps the most stacked event in its history TONIGHT (July 30, 2011) from the Sears Center in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. The top of the card is loaded with one of the wildest fights of all time as Russian heavyweight mixed martial arts (MMA) legend Fedor Emelianenko battles Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champion Dan Henderson in a non-title "legacy fight."
The co-main event will be a monstrous women's 135-pound title fight as current champion and women's MMA pioneer Marloes Coenen takes on the upstart Miesha Tate.
Middleweight contenders Robbie Lawler and Tim Kennedy will also square off for the right to potentially earn a rematch against Strikeforce champion Ronaldo Souza, while recent welterweight contender Paul Daley will go to war against top rising prospect Tyron Woodley in a 170-pound showdown.
The talent-rich main card begins at 10 p.m. ET tonight, but the big question is, how can you watch it? Follow us after the jump for complete details:
The most readily accessible way to view the fights is through the premium cable channel, Showtime. If you don't have Showtime and really want to watch the fights, don't fret, you can order the channel at a special discounted rate for the event here.
For MMA fans out of the UK, you can view the fights on the channel Primetime, which is expected to air the main card live. The channel Tiger Gate is expected to air the event for fans in the Southeast Asia market, too.
For those looking for the sports bar experience, this is where it gets a little tricky.
Bars are keen to advertise that they're carrying a UFC event because they have to pay extra to air the show. With Strikeforce, they just need a subscription to Showtime, which isn't exactly something to advertise in the paper. The demand for (and the draw for) a Strikeforce show is simply not even close to on the same level as a UFC pay-per-view (PPV), plain and simple.
The smartest plan of action would be to call your local watering hole, especially one that has recently catered to the MMA crowd, and see if it has a subscription to Showtime. There's no specific database of every bar carrying Strikeforce like there is with the UFC (http://bars.ufc.com/), so maybe check the UFC list and see if they're showing the fights tonight.
If you can find a nearby sports bar showing the fights tonight, it would make the extra work worth it.
Just remember, whether you are watching the fights or not, come check out MMAmania.com for the latest updates, live results, play-by-play and analysis of the Strikeforce: "Fedor vs. Henderson." We will deliver live results all night long right here.
Enjoy the fights, Maniacs!
