Wladimir Klitschko vs. David Haye fight result recap for July 2 in Germany

David Haye and Wladimir Klitschko had everything a fight fan wanted: it was a meaningful heavyweight fight, both fighters were notorious knockout artists, and there was a veritable avalanche of trash talk from both sides.

All it lacked was any sort of excitement.

Despite his brash claims and accusations that Klitschko had "killed" boxing with his refusal to engage, Haye hardly did any better, throwing, on average, less than twenty-five punches a round and landing less than ten. Klitschko was perfectly happy to utilize his size advantage and lethal jab to keep Haye at bay. The Brit even resorted to flopping, falling to the ground whenever Klitschko attempted a clinch. While he succeeded in getting a point taken from the Ukrainian, the referee had had enough by the eleventh, when he declared one such flop a knockdown.

While both fighters wobbled the other, Klitschko with a flurry in the fifth and Haye with a lunging overhand in the twelfth, but neither was too intent on taking any risks.

Haye was talking about fighting both brothers, but after today's performance, which looked like he was laughing all the way to the bank after negotiating a ridiculous fifty-fifty split with Wladimir, it's unlikely Vitali will want anything to do with him.

A disappointing end to the most important heavyweight fight of the decade and a disgraceful performance from the British banger. Get used to the Klitschkos owning the heavyweight division; the last hope just ran away for thirty-six minutes.
