Rick Story is no master of mathematics, he just knows that Alves + Fitch = title shot.
After a bruising victory over Thiago Alves, the number four ranked welterweight in the world, at UFC 130 last night (May 28, 2011) in Las Vegas, Story was asked who his next opponent should be.
Would he call anyone out in the same manner he did "Pitbull?" Not exactly. He's got someone in mind but only because he's necessary for the equation:
"Me and my coach Pat White were discussing this and we think that my next opponent should be Jon Fitch, just because he's the next guy in line."
Since a decision loss to John Hathaway back at UFC 99 in June 2009, Story has ripped off six consecutive wins. However, four of them have made it to the judges scorecards.
Is that a consideration for a potential bout with decision king Jon Fitch?
Maybe, but the fact remains -- he's slowly worked his way up the ladder and is coming off an impressive win over a former title contender.
Is that enough to convince you he deserves a fight against a perennial 170-pound standout like Fitch? Or does the prospect of that fight leave you in "Horror?"
