I've got great news for "real" fight fans who are Swick and tired of waiting for one of the world's most dynamic welterweights to return.
Former Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 1 contestant Mike Swick is reportedly booked to make his Octagon return against promotion newcomer Erick Silva when the world's largest fight promotion heads to Brazil for UFC 134 on Aug. 27 from the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro.
Sherdog.com brought word of the pending match-up earlier today.
Swick (14-4) hasn't seen action since a submission loss to Brazilian supercop Paulo Thiago at UFC 109 way back in February 2010. The "Quick" defeat was his second straight after dropping a close unanimous decision to Dan Hardy at UFC 105 across the pond.
He was expected to "Fight for the Troops" against David Mitchell earlier this year, but his recent surgery to correct "esophageal issues" did not heal in time and Swick was forced to withdraw from the contest.
Set to welcome him back is Zuffa rookie Erick Silva (11-1).
"Indio" has been terrorizing the 170-pound division in his native Brazil, securing the finish in eight of his 11 wins en route to capturing the Jungle Fight welterweight championship. He's sure to be a stiff test for any competitor, even one as seasoned as Swick.
UFC 134 will feature Anderson "The Spider" Silva defending his middleweight title against Yushin "Thunder" Okami, while Mauricio "Shogun" Rua will make his return to the Octagon for the first time since coughing up his 205-pound strap to Jon "Bones" Jones.
In addition, mixed martial arts legend Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira will make what could be his last stand in front of a hometown crowd when he tries to quell the uprising of division prospect Brendan "The Hybrid" Schaub.
