UFC 129 medical suspensions and injuries for 'St. Pierre vs Shields' in Toronto

Ufcmedicalsuspensions_medium

The Ontario Ministry of Consumer Services announced the list of medical suspensions for the UFC 129: "St. Pierre vs. Shields" event that took place on April 30, 2011, at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

With several of the bouts ending early (and violently), there were a handful of fighters who were flagged follow up visits with their doctors.

Chief among them is Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre, whose eyeball absorbed a vicious poke (or jab, whichever you believe) from number one contender Jake Shields in their main event fight.

"Rush" will be on the shelf for no less than 60 days and must be cleared by an ophthalmologist before he is allowed to return.

Also taking a mandatory vacation of no less than 60 days is Mark Hominick after Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo battered and boxed him up to the point of "The Machine" growing what looked like a second head. The Canadian must undergo a CT scan before he can return to training.

And not that it matters much, seeing as he's now retired, but Randy Couture was given a 60 day suspension for his Crane kick knockout loss to "The Karate Kid" Lyoto Machida.

But that's not all.

Here is the complete list of UFC 129 injuries and their medical instructions (via Sherdog):

Georges St. Pierre -- Suspended 60 days for eye injury; must be cleared by an ophthalmologist before he can return.

Mark Hominick -- Suspended 60 days as a precaution; must undergo CT scan before he can return.

Just a quick reminder: Fighters often return to action much quicker once doctors give them the green light. The lengthy suspensions are just a precaution in most cases.
