Take two.
A pair of exciting featherweights are headed for "Sin City," as Erik Koch has been booked to fight Cub Swanson at the upcoming "Faber vs. Cruz" event, set for July 2 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The promotion announced the addition to the UFC 132 fight card last night.
Koch is just 22 years old and already sports an impressive record of 11-1 in his budding professional career. "The New Breed" is fresh off two straight destructive knockouts, against Francisco Rivera and Raphael Assuncao, respectively, both of which earned him "Knockout of the Night" honors.
The Iowa native trains with Roufusport. That's the Duke Roufus led team that is quickly becoming famous in the world of MMA with such stars as Pat Barry and Anthony Pettis.
Koch brings the same level of excitement as his stable mates and this match-up has fireworks written all over it.
Cub Swanson was a wrecking machine by the time he finally made his way into the WEC. He went 5-3 in his time with the promotion but a couple of ugly losses have caused a few pundits to take him less seriously as a contender.
In fact, the California native represents the lone victory in the last four years for legendary fighter Jens Pulver. He was also "posterized" by Jose Aldo when "Junior" put him out with a flying knee in all of eight seconds.
Yes, the Team Jackson product may have had his struggles but he can always be counted on for one thing -- thrilling performances in the cage. Three of his eight fights in the WEC resulted in "Fight of the Night" honors.
With a match-up like this, he could kick-start his Octagon career by winning another one. Stay tuned.
UFC 132 is official for Las Vegas on July 2 with Urijah Faber vs. Dominick Cruz serving as the featured fight of the evening. B.J. Penn is still slated for a showdown but his original opponent, Jon Fitch, suffered an injury and no replacement has been named at this time.
Tito Ortiz will make his return to action against Ryan Bader in a light heavyweight contest, while the rest of the card will feature match-ups pitting Melvin Guillard against Shane Roller, Wanderlei Silva vs. Chris Leben, George Sotiropoulos vs. Evan Dunham and Dennis Siver vs. Matt Wiman.
