Joe Silva has this matchmaking business down Pat.
That's because heavy hitting heavyweights Pat Barry and Cheick Kongo will throw leather this summer at the upcoming UFC on Versus 4 event on June 26 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The promotion made the bout official for the co-main event in "Steel City" earlier today.
Barry recently rebounded from his bone crushing loss to Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic with a three-round unanimous decision win in a slugfest against Joey Beltran back on Jan. 22.
"HD" is just 3-2 in his short Octagon career, but is as entertaining as they come. A fight against Kongo isn't hard to "get hyped" for.
Kongo is 1-2-1 in his last four fights; not exactly awe-inspiring but when you consider the losses (Cain Velasquez, Frank Mir), it is, at the very least, understandable.
That said, elbowing Paul Buentello into submission and fighting to a draw with Travis Browne due to the Frenchman's repeated grabbing of his opponent's shorts makes one wonder.
Is he ready for the upper echelon of the division?
Pat Barry is the first step towards that. Then again, it also has all the makings for a stand-and-bang till we all fall down brawl, so who cares about divisional relevance, eh, Maniacs?
UFC on Versus 4 will feature a bevy of marquee match ups, including a welterweight brouhaha between muscle-bound martial artists Nate Marquardt and Anthony Johnson.
In addition, Joe Stevenson will make his featherweight debut against Javier Vazquez, while Manny Gamburyan welcomes Tyson Griffin to the 145-pound division.
