Newly-crowned heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos went under the knife earlier today (Dec. 7, 2011) to repair a torn meniscus suffered while training for his fight against Cain Velasquez at UFC on FOX 1.
Not that it mattered.
Dos Santos needed just over a minute to blast his way into heavyweight history back on Nov. 12 in Anaheim, California, and remains undefeated at 8-0 (14-1 overall) since joining the world's largest fight promotion.
While the Brazilian bomber is on the mend, you can bet he'll be tuning in to see who wins the upcoming fight between Brock Lesnar and Alistair Overeem, scheduled for Dec. 30 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
That's because the winner of "Lesnar vs. Overeem" will get first crack at "Cigano's" belt at some point in 2012, depending on the recovery process.
Stay tuned to MMAmania.com for more on the future of the heavyweight title picture as it develops.
