A welterweight scrap between two dominant wrestlers took place on the UFC 141: Lesnar vs. Overeem main card tonight (Fri., Dec. 30, 2011) in Las Vegas, Nevada, as Jon Fitch returned to battle Johny Hendricks.
Fitch, who hasn't tasted defeated since he dropped a decision to Georges St. Pierre back at UFC 87, was making his long awaited return from shoulder surgery. Hendricks, meanwhile, was simply looking to use Fitch as a springboard to a title shot in the 170-pound division.
Mission accomplished.
That's because it took Hendricks just 12 seconds to land a big left hook that folded Fitch up like a cheap lawn chair. One more follow up missile blew Fitch up and the referee made the save.
Fitch was aggressive to start, coming out and looking to bang. And that's what he got from his opponent, who was all too happy to oblige.
Good news for Johny, bad news for Jon.
One looping left hook was all it took for "Big Rig" to go riding off into the upper tier of the welterweight division. He becomes just the second man ever to defeat Fitch inside the Octagon.
Insanity.
