Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will make its debut on FX on Jan. 20, 2012, from the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee. And with that date just around the corner, the fight card is filling up quickly.
A pair of fights were added to the event today, as announced by the promotion on its website, including a middleweight mash up pitting Jorge Rivera against Eric Schafer.
Rivera, who briefly flirted with retirement following consecutive losses to Michael Bisping and Constantinos Philippou, respectively, has decided to give it one more go. A loss likely means the end of his fighting career.
The same could be said for his opponent, Schafer, who is struggling through a 1-3 stretch. Just 3-5 in two separate stints with the UFC, "Red" recently made his middleweight debut and hopes to find a home there.
A featherweight match-up has also been added to the card.
Mike Brown brought himself back from the brink of unemployment by staving off a three-fight losing streak back at UFC 133 with a win over Nam Phan.
He'll look to continue his trek back up the featherweight ladder against Vagner Rocha.
Rocha, who will be making his debut in the division following a submission win over Cody McKenzie this past Sept. 17 at UFC Fight Night 25, has split a pair of bouts inside the Octagon. A win over a former 145-pound champion could catapult him to the front of the featherweight line.
UFC on FX, which will mark the promotion's inaugural effort on the FOX-owned network, will be headlined by two top lightweight contenders, Jim Miller vs. Melvin Guillard, who both had their 155-pound title-challenging aspirations dashed with disappointing losses in their most recent performances.
Also penciled in for the FX fight card is a heavyweight battle between Pat Barry vs. Christian Morecraft, as well as a welterweight slugfest that pits Josh Neer vs. Duane Ludwig.
