There's a fantastic welterweight slugfest between Thiago Alves and Martin Kampmann brewing for an upcoming UFC event on March 3, according to a report from MMA Weekly.
No event number or venue has been identified at this time; however, "The Pitbull" tells Tatame.com it's a fight he's been asking for:
"It was the fight I asked and I know UFC fans will love it. He has just defeated Rick Story, who had beat me before, so it's a good fight for me. He'll go for the trade of punches, he'll come for it, so it's a fight on which the styles really combine."
Alves (19-8) got back into the win column with a submission victory over Octagon rookie Papy Abedi at UFC 138: "Leben vs. Munoz" back on Nov. 5 in England.
So too, did Kampmann (18-5), thanks to a hard-fought split decision win over Rick Story at UFC 139: "Henderson vs. Shogun" this past weekend in San Jose.
I haven't talked w @ufc yet and I don't have a date or opponent. Alves is a possibility but so is a lot guys. I will let you know!
Nothing is official at this time -- but that's never stopped us from speculating before and it shouldn't now. So let's hear it Maniacs, who wins this welterweight war?
More on this possible match-up in the coming days.
