UFC 142: Siyar Bahadurzada vs Erick Silva on tap for Jan. 14 in Rio

First you saw him as "Mayhem" Miller's assistant coach on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 14, now you'll see him as a UFC fighter.

Golden Glory welterweight Siyar Bahadurzada today (Nov. 14, 2011) announced he'll be fighting Erick Silva at UFC 142 on Jan. 14, 2012, from the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

From his official Twitter account:

I'll be fighting Erick Silva at UFC 142!!!!! Anxious to fight in Rio again!!!!!

Bahadurzada (20-4) recently ran roughshod over the competition in the Ultimate Glory Welterweight Tournament, capturing the crown and knocking out all three of his opponents in the process.

Aside from terrorizing the ranks on the International scene, the Afghan native is the current Shooto 183-pound champion and hasn't lost since Jorge Santiago heel-hooked him back in 2008.

He gets a very stiff test in his ZUFFA debut, as Erick Silva has known to be a "Killer" himself.

"Indio" (13-1) made quick work of Luis Ramos in his first appearance under the UFC banner, crushing his Brazilian counterpart in just 40 seconds back at UFC 134.

A dominating win over Bahadurzada would make a serious statement in the promotion's crowded 170-pound division.

UFC 142 will feature featherweight champion Jose Aldo defending his 145-pound title against undefeated wrestler Chad Mendes. In addition, Vitor Belfort will strap on the gloves to try and ruin Anthony Johnson's debut at middleweight.
