Ladies and gentlemen, "Napao" is back.
Nearly a year after his Zuffa release, former UFC heavyweight number one contender Gabriel Gonzaga got back into the win column last Saturday night (Oct. 8, 2011) by choking out Parker Porter in the Reality Fighting Series main event at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, CT.
Third round play-by-play from our cageside comrade Nathaniel Pratt:
Porter is pawing trying to find his range. Napão goes for a head kick. Blocked. Parker lands a solid right that stuns Napão for a second, he recovers. He fires a great combo that catches Parker. Napão rushes in to follow up landing some heavy punches and floors Parker! Napão pounces on Parker firing off bombs to Parker's head. Napão works and gets the mount and continues ground-and-pound with Parker pinned against the cage. Parker trying to escape to his and is scrambling. Gonzaga keeps him down utilizing the BJJ he is famous for and with great body control!! Parker is turtling with Napão in side control unleashing bomb and he takes Porter's back looking for the rear naked choke. Parker scrambles and Napão moves to mount and transitions into an arm triangle and Parker taps immediately!!!
Also in action, Matt Bessette lost a unanimous decision (and his lightweight title) to Joe Proctor while bantamweight champion John McLaughlin coughed up the strap after getting stiffened by Emil Haddad.
Now that the dust has settled and the smoke has cleared, are there any fight fans that want to see Gonzaga work his way back into the UFC? Or do you think he should stay on the regional circuit for the foreseeable future?
Thoughts?
