UFC on Versus 6: "Cruz vs. Johnson" marked the final time the world's largest fight promotion would hold an event on the Versus broadcast network. They went out with a bang, too, giving away a championship fight on free TV.
But did the ratings reflect that?
Yes and no. "Cruz vs. Johnson" averaged 789,000 viewers, which is up slightly from the 766,000 viewers that tuned into UFC on Versus 5 back on Aug. 14, according to Sherdog.
While that's certainly a plus, it's still not even close to sniffing the high mark set by the very first Versus show, "Jones vs. Vera" back in March 2010, which brought in a whopping 1.2 million viewers.
Take 'em how you can get 'em, though, right?
UFC on Versus 6 featured Bantamweight Champion Dominick Cruz defending his title for the second time inside the Octagon by toughing out a gritty decision victory over Demetrious Johnson.
I saw toughing out because "The Dominator" battled through four and a half rounds with a broken freaking hand.
The co-main event of the evening saw Stefan Struve strangle Pat Barry with a second round triangle choke submission victory. "HD" hoisted "The Skyscraper" into the air for a powerbomb in an attempt to break the choke but was, obviously, unsuccessful.
In other action on the card, Anthony Johnson controversially knocked out Charlie Brenneman with some sweet chin music and Matt Wiman proved once and for all he's better than Mac Danzig by knocking him off in a bloody war.
