UFC 136 medical suspensions: Gray Maynard sidelined until Dec., Frankie Edgar just six weeks

Texas Dept. of Licensing and Regulation today released the list of medical suspensions for the fighters who competed at UFC 136: "Edgar vs. Maynard 3," which took place on Sat., Oct. 8, 2011, from the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.

With several of the bouts violently going the distance, one would imagine that several combatants would be slapped with indefinite suspensions that extended well into 2012.

Not the case.

In fact, Gray Maynard is the only fighter out of the field of 22 to be hit with a suspension until December (12/8/2011). The man who put him on the pine with an uppercut, right hook, right hook, left, left, left, left barrage of blows, Frankie Edgar, will be frozen until Nov. 23, 2011.

Rather decent, considering the busted nose he sustained in the brutal first round and the rest of the damage that "The Answer" accumulated up until the his fourth round technical knockout finish of "The Bully."

Joining them on the injured reserve are co main event participants, UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo and Kenny Florian, who earned matching medical suspensions until Oct. 24, 2011, after the conclusion of their five-round fight.

But that's not all.

Here is the complete list of UFC 136 medical suspensions (sans specific injuries, which were not disclosed):

Frankie Edgar -- Nov. 23, 2011
Gray Maynard -- Dec. 8, 2011
Jose Aldo -- Oct. 24, 2011
Kenny Florian -- Oct. 24, 2011
Chael Sonnen -- Oct. 16, 2011
Brian Stann -- Oct. 16, 2011
Joe Lauzon -- Oct. 16, 2011
Melvin Guillard -- Oct. 16, 2011
Nam Phan -- Oct. 18, 2011
Leonard Garcia -- Nov. 23, 2011
Anthony Pettis -- Oct. 18, 2011
Jeremy Stephens -- Oct. 18, 2011
Demian Maia -- Oct. 18, 2011
Jorge Santiago -- Oct. 18, 2011
Stipe Miocic -- Oct. 18, 2011
Joey Beltran -- Oct. 18, 2011
Darren Elkins -- Oct. 18, 2011
Zhang Tie Quan -- Oct. 18, 2011
Aaron Simpson -- Oct. 18, 2011
Eric Schafer -- Nov. 8, 2011
Mike Massenzio -- Nov. 23, 2011
Steve Cantwell -- Oct. 18, 2011

Just a quick reminder: Fighters often return to action much quicker once doctors give them the green light. Lengthy suspensions, which are virtually non-existent in the wake of this event, are just a precaution in most cases.
