The Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) today issued its list of medical suspensions for UFC 125: "Resolution," which took place on Saturday, Jan. 1, 2011, from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
With several of the bouts ending early (and violently), there were a handful of fighters who were flagged follow up visits with their doctors.
Chief among them was UFC Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar, who must have his nasal fracture cleared by an ear, nose and throat doctor before returning to competition.
The man responsible for said damage, Gray Maynard, is benched until early February for facial lacerations.
Also getting a mandatory timeout was Brandon Vera, who ended up looking like Marsha Brady after she had her face caved in by a rampant pigskin, all thanks to the vicious ground and pound of Brazilian steamroller Thiago Silva.
But that's not all.
Here is the complete list of UFC 125 injuries and their medical instructions:
Frankie Edgar: Must have nasal fracture cleared by an ear, nose and throat doctor or no contest until 07/01/11; minimum suspension no contest until 03/03/11, no contact until 02/16/11.
Gray Maynard: Suspended until 02/01/11; no contact until 01/23/111 (facial lacerations).
Chris Leben: Suspended until 02/16/11; no contact until 02/01/11.
Brandon Vera: Must have nasal fracture cleared by an ear, nose and throat doctor or no contest until 07/01/11; minimum suspension no contest until 03/03/11, no contact until 02/16/11.
Josh Grispi: Must have jaw x-rayed, if positive must be cleared by an oral, maxial and facial doctor or no contest until 07/01/11; minimum suspension no contest until 02/16/11, no contact until 02/01/11.
Phil Baroni: Must have nasal fracture cleared by a doctor or no contest until 07/01/11; minimum suspension no contest until 03/03/11, no contact until 02/16/11.
Marcus Davis: Must have nasal fracture cleared by a doctor or no contest until 07/01/11; minimum suspension no contest until 03/03/11, no contact until 02/16/11.
Diego Nunes: Suspended until 01/23/11; no contact until 01/16/11 (left eye contusion).
Greg Soto: Must have orthopedic clearance on left shoulder injury or no contest until 07/01/11.
Just a quick reminder: Fighters often return to action much quicker once doctors give them the green light. The lengthy suspensions are just a precaution in most cases.
