Well, you can't say the UFC lacks consistency.
That's because they've added yet another Canadian scrapper to the card in their first trip to Toronto for the "St. Pierre vs Shields" event on April 30 in the form of Nate Diaz against native Rory MacDonald, according to MMAFighting.com.
Would you believe that Nate Diaz is just 25 years old? Well, he is and he's looking to bounce back from a hard fought unanimous decision loss to grappling wizard Dong Hyun Kim at UFC 125.
After beginning his run with the UFC by winning season 5 of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF), the Cesar Gracie fighter reeled off five straight wins at 155-pounds. Right when he was on the cusp of title contention though, he lost three of his next four fights.
So what's the natural thought process? That's right -- eat up and move up a class.
Two finishes later and one half of the 209 boyz was ready to make a run at 170-pounds. "Stun Gun" made him stop short but it looks like he'll try his luck at welterweight once again when he travels north of the border to throw hands against "The Waterboy."
As long as we're talking about age, it should be noted that Mr. MacDonald wasn't even able to legally order a drink until July of last year (2010).That doesn't mean he's not one hell of a fighter though, going 10-1 in his budding professional career.
An impressive armbar submission win in his debut with the UFC over Mike Guymon earned him a shot against former WEC Welterweight Champion Carlos Condit. "Mac" shocked quite a few fans and pundits when he controlled the majority of the fight and may have been on his way to a decision victory until he gassed and was finished with just seconds remaining in the contest.
Experience plays a big part in MMA and the Canadian has made his way up to Tristar gym to train with 170-pound Champion Georges St. Pierre.
If he watched Diaz lose to Kim, he might find it advantageous to drill wrestling with the very best in the world. Tune in to find out.
UFC 129 is all set for Toronto on April 30 and will feature pound-for-pound stalwart Georges St. Pierre defending his welterweight strap against Strikeforce import Jake Shields.
Randy Couture will defy time once again when he returns to the cage to take on Lyoto Machida in the co-main event of the evening. A glorified wrestling match is also rumored for the card as Phil Davis will lock up with Matt Hamill.
