Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Muhammed Lawal (7-0) is likely to make his first title defense against Rafael Cavalcante (9-2) when the promotion heads south for its latest Showtime offering tentatively scheduled for Aug. 21 in Houston, Texas.
Five Ounces of Pain first reported the pending match-up earlier today.
"King Mo" laid claim to the throne with a lopsided unanimous decision win over the highly regarded Gegard Mousasi at the Strikeforce/CBS "Saturday Night Fights" event back on April 17 in Nashville.
It was his second straight win for the San Jose-based promotion and another example of the effectiveness that accompanies the new breed of dominant wrestlers.
Expect more of that come August against the hard-hitting Brazilian.
"Feijao" came into Strikeforce after winning three straight as an Elite XC fighter. Unfortunately Mike Pyle was not impressed with his resume and stopped the winded Cavalcante at "Lawler vs. Shields" in the second round via strikes.
After ratcheting up his pre-fight training camp and conditioning, the Brazilian came storming back against Aaron Rosa for the "Challengers" division before earning his title shot with a first round technical knockout over Antwain Britt last May.
Will it be enough to take "King Mo's" crown?
