UFC 116: Jon Madsen vs Karlos Vemola targeted for July 3

After a successful bid to get back into the UFC following his early exit on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 10, Jon Madsen will return to "Sin City" to face promotion newcomer Karlos Vemola at UFC 116 on July 3 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

The gang over at Fighter's Only reported the match-up late last night.

Madsen made a name for himself on the high school and collegiate wrestling scene, but made a bee-line for mixed martial arts immediately following his quest for higher learning.

After joining Matt Hughes H.I.T. Squad, Madsen racked up a perfect 2-0 record in 2008 after his debut at Crossroads Combat Challenge (CCC) 3 in Illinois.

That success (along with his gym affiliation) landed him a spot on TUF 10, but he would eventually fall to finalist Brendan Schaub via knockout in their exhibition match in the quarterfinals.

He rebounded against Justin Wren, grinding out a split decision at last year's TUF 10 Finale and made it two in a row with a unanimous decision win over Mostapha Al-Turk at UFC 112 earlier this month.

Hoping to break his stride is Vemola, who knows a thing or two about winning streaks.

"The Terminator" ran roughshod over the heavyweights in Cage Fighters Championship (CFC) from 2008-09. He was last seen giving Peter Yendall a case of the stupids at Ultimate Challenge MMA: "Resurrection" back in February.

All seven of his wins have come by way of (T)KO or submission.

UFC 116 is set to be headlined by returning heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar, as he tries to quell the uprising of undefeated division contender Shane Carwin. Yoshihiro Akiyama and Wanderlei Silva will also square off in a battle of sexy vs. psycho.
