WEC 48 results and LIVE fight coverage for 'Aldo vs Faber' on April 24 in Sacramento

World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) is set to pull the trigger on its first-ever pay-per-view (PPV) fight card tonight (Saturday, April 24) for the promotion's return trip to the Arco Arena in Sacramento, California.

WEC 48 features a featherweight championship title fight between the promotion's greatest marketing asset, "The California Kid" Urijah Faber, and the seemingly invincible 145-pound champion, Jose "Junior" Aldo.

Also booked for the star-studded event is newly-crowned lightweight champion Ben "Smooth" Henderson as he answers the call of Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone. Mike Brown will also take part in the action when he collides with Manny "Pitbull" Gamburyan.

MMAmania.com will provide LIVE blow-by-blow, round-by-round coverage of WEC 48, beginning with the PPV telecast at 10 p.m. ET. In addition, up-to-the-minute quick results of all the under card have already been recorded below.

WEC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo vs. Urijah Faber (145-pound limit)

Round one: Faber comes out throwing some faints looking for distance. Aldo patient and stalking. Faber trying to get off with a right more than once but nothing there. Aldo throwing some leg kicks but hasnt connected. Leg kick from Aldo. Big leg kick from Aldo trips up Faber. Great body shot and leg kick combo from Aldo. Faber reaches for a single but nothing there he did not commit to it fully. Faber is having trouble closing the distance and getting into striking range to land something of significance. Nice knee to the gut from Aldo as Faber charges in. Good kick from Faber. Faber looking to land some left right combos. Aldo lands a big flying knee while Faber was going for one of his own. Spinning back kick from Aldo. That's the round, mostly just a feeling out process but Aldo landing more shots especially with the leg kicks and knees. Faber is having trouble getting in striking range, 10-9 Aldo.


Round two: Faber with alot of faints trying to make Aldo commit to something so he can counter or get a take down. Big body kick from Aldo. Great leg kick from Aldo buckles the California kid. Nice uppercut and left hook from Aldo and he just missed hitting the button with that combo but it still landed. Nice leg kick from Aldo and now Faber is starting to lead with his left often and becoming predictable. Leg kick from Aldo. Leg kick from Aldo. Faber briefly switches to southpaw. Big leg kick from Aldo and Faber is starting to favor his left leg from these strong kicks from the champ. Nice left to the body and sharp leg kick from Aldo and Faber buckles his left leg is hurt. Faber switches his stance now and is trying to avoid putting weight on his leg. Another big leg kick from Aldo and they are taking their toll. Another leg kick lands. Nice body kick to close out the round by Aldo, and Faber is limping back to his corner. 10-9 Aldo.


Round three: Aldo is just dominating with his leg kicks. Faber is rendered helpless right now. Aldo keeps landing vicious leg kicks. Faber is wearing down. Faber catches a kick and trips Aldo but the champ is right back to his feet. Great body shot and leg kick from Aldo drops Faber to the mat. Aldo lands a head kick now and throws some serious combo punches which are landing!! Aldo is dominating right now and his leg kicks are taking a serious toll. Faber drops to the mat with every leg kick. Aldo is controlling this fight easily now. Thats the bell and Faber is carried to his corner by his corner men at the end of this round. 10-9 Aldo.


Round four: Another leg kick from Aldo. Again another big leg kick from Aldo. Aldo now pounding away with leg kicks on the other leg of Faber. Faber pulls guard desperately and Aldo pounces on top and has mount for a second but Faber gives up his back. Aldo with both hooks in. Aldo throwing some hammer fists to try and find an opening. Faber somehow bounces to his feet! Leg kick from Aldo drops Faber to the mat again, he is fighting on one leg. Aldo is on top now and Faber is holding on trying to avoid ground and pound. Crucifix position from Aldo and he is landing some big punches now. Faber can't defend. Elbows now from Aldo. Aldo is throwing elbows trying to cut open Faber. Faber cannot get out of this position because he only has one leg to push off on. Aldo is literally throwing non stop elbows here. Thats the round 10-9 Aldo and this fight is as good as over unless Faber pulls a miracle.


Round five: Aldo has not even broken a sweat you cannot tell he has even been in a fight. Faber is torn and tattered. Leg kick from Aldo again. Faber with a desperate take down attempt and Aldo spins out. Faber on the ground now and Aldo is just waiting for him to get to his feet and Faber is lying there hoping to pull guard or entice Aldo to the ground. Faber knows he has nothing left on his feet. Aldo side steps a take down attempt. Leg kick from Aldo, he is not very active and it probably is because he knows he has this fight won already if he can make it to the end of the round. Big body shot from Aldo. Faber with a half hearted take down attempt and now he is lying on his back and Aldo is throwing some more leg kicks. That is the bell and Jose Aldo simply put dominated from start to finish. He used vicious leg kicks to turn Faber into a one legged fighter and after that there was nothing Faber could do to even put up the facade of being able to win this fight. Aldo could have done more at the end to try and finish this fight especially with as weak as Faber was, but he was up big on points and has never been in a 5 round fight so he most likely wanted to play it safe.

Final result: Jose Aldo defeats Urijah Faber via Unanimous Decision

WEC Lightweight Champion Benson Henderson vs. Donald Cerrone (155-pound limit)

Round one: Cerrone standing tall. Henderson southpaw stance. Big leg kick from Cerrone and Henderson right away grabs a single. Their pressed up against the cage with Henderson in the dominant position. Knees to the thigh from Henderson as he has the back of Cerrone. Nice knees from behind by the champ. Big knees to the back of the thigh. Cerrone spins around and Henderson takes him down right away and starts with good ground and pound. Elbow from Henderson and now he pulls a sick guillotine and Cerrone taps out!! Wow Ben Henderson with an amazing submission win in impressive fashion.

Mike Brown vs. Manny Gamburyan (145-pound limit)

Round one: Brown misses on a big right. Gamburyan throws a combo but misses. Brown standing in the pocket. Body shot then right hand from Gamburyan. Big left from Brown, Gamburyan catches a big right hand and drops Brown!!! Gamburyan pounces on top and is throwing more big right bombs and thats it!! This fight is over, Manny Gamburyan with an amazing upset KO victory. Wow, big surprise.

Anthony Njokuani vs. Shane Roller (155-pound limit)

Round one: Roller right away reaches out and ties up Njokuani. He is looking for the take down right away doesnt want anything to do with the stand up game. Njokuani is down briefly but is right back to his feet. Roller gets the take down again but this time is moving into half guard right away. Full mount for Roller!! Roller jumps over for a north south choke but loosing his grip! Roller jumps to the back again and now is extremely close to locking in the rear naked choke!! Njokuani is turning into the body triangle to try and avoid submission. Roller peppering in some punches and just making sure he controls the body position of Njokuani. Roller has a crossface but cannot lock in the choke. Njokuani fighting hard to get out of this position, but Roller locks in the choke finally and Njokuani taps out!! Shane Roller with a surprise win over a very talented Anthony Njokuani. Roller executed his game plan to perfection.

Antonio Banuelos vs. Scott Jorgensen (135-pound limit)

Round one: Inside leg kick for Banuelos. Left hook from Banuelos. Nice right from Jorgensen. Banuelos with a big combo. Good sprawl from Banuelos and a solid body shot. Their tied up in the center of the cage. They break Banuelos misses a left. Inside leg kick from Jorgensen. Jorgensen moving forward. Big leg kick from Banuelos knocks Jorgensen off his feet for a second. Nice left from Jorgensen. Nice body shot left hook from Banuelos. Nice left from Banuelos. HUGE left uppercut from Banuelos lands hard and drops Jorgensen!!! Banuelos jumps on top and is trying to gain position. Elbows from Banuelos and Jorgensen almost gets an arm bar!! Banuelos lets him up now. Double jab from Jorgensen. Their tied up again over under for Banuelos. Knee from Jorgensen. Nice left from Banuelos he is moving in and out great. Head kick from Jorgensen. Knee from Jorgensen. Spinning back kick from Banuelos hits the body hard. Nice body kick from Banuelos. Big right and head kick from Banuelos along with a spinning back kick to end the round. Banuelos is moving well and almost had a KO, hes controlling the fight. 10-9 Banuelos.


Round two: Jorgensen looking to push the pace now. Hes moving forward. Banuelos catches a kick and lands a right. Body kick from Jorgensen has some sting. Jorgensen wiht a good combo that lands flush. Inside leg kick from Banuelos. Jorgensen catches a double jab. Jorgensen is turning up the heat and using his jab to do it. Banuelos is bleeding now from his nose. Left from Banuelos. Big right from Jorgensen lands hard. Nice left hook then body kick from Banuelos. Both men land lefts at the same time. Banuelos starting to swing wreckless. Great right from Jorgensen. Jab from Banuelos. Double jab from Jorgensen. Right from Banuelos. Jab from Jorgensen. Right from Jorgensen drops Banuelos to the mat!!! Jorgensen jumps on the back and is trying to get his hooks in. Banuelos is gushing blood from his nose it has to be broken bad. Banuelos back to his feet and Jorgensen lands a knee for his effort. Thats the bell, Banuelos has a broken nose to be sure and Jorgensen is coming on strong. Jorgensen is using a strong jab to set up his big right. 10-9 Jorgensen.


Round three: Jorgensen lands some big rights to start off this round. Banuelos is still game and throwing counters but not landing much. Jorgensen starting to pick apart Banuelos now and is nose is bleeding badly. Big kick from Jorgensen. Jorgensen with a stiff right that snaps Banuelos's head back. Nice left from Banuelos. Leg kick from Jorgensen. Big right from Jorgensen but Banuelos lands a good counter right. Nice straight right from Jorgensen. Inside leg kick from Banuelos. Jorgensen drops Banuelos with a HUGE right!!! Jorgensen hops on the back of Banuelos and he throws a wild behind the back elbow. Jorgensen looking to lock in a rear naked, but Banuelos slips out!! Hammer fists from Jorgensen. Jorgensen seems content to ride out the fight on Banuelos's back. Banuelos does a crazy summer sault roll over but it doers nothing. Jorgensen looking for the choke and Banuelos is swinging like a mad man from his stomach and gets out as the bell rings! Wow Banuelos was tough as nails and a gamer till the end but after a impressive 1st round Banuelos fell victim to a stiff jab and broken nose. Jorgensen poured in on from round 2 on. 10-9 Jorgensen.

Leonard Garcia vs. Chan Sung Jung (145-pound limit)

Round one: Jung promised to stand and bang with "Bad Boy" tonight ... let's see if he lives up to his word. So far so good -- both fighters are angling to land blows. Garcia lands a low kick and Jung misses with a wild right. Garcia lands a big blow to the ear of Jung. And it's on! Haymakers from both fighters. It's furious action. Garcia appeared to land the more powerful shots, as well as a knee, but it was major action in the early going. They end up tied up against the fence and Garcia lands a nice elbow. They break and Jung pours it on, landing several more strikes. Garcia looks gassed already -- not good. Jung throws a leg kick that lands partially and keeps stalking Garcia. he catches Garcia with a huge left, then a right, that drops him. Garcia is hurt. Jung follows him to the canvas and rains down punches. Garcia is in trouble. He scoots out and locks in an armbar. It looks tight, but Jung is able to get out and keeps pounding Garcia. Garcia gets to his feet, but Jung lands a knee. Here we go again! Garcia is gassed, but the two are once again in all out brawl. Wow! The round ends. Incredible action. The crowd is going bananas ... and rightfully so. What a war!

Round two: Garcia looks a little refreshed, let's see how long it lasts. He lands a left, but Jung hits him with a high kick. Garcia with his head down is slinging punches, landing a massive blow. Jung is hurt! Garcia is going for broke ... Jung is hurt. But he keeps on fighting. Garcia has his head down and is just throwing wildly. He misses with a spinning back fist, which Jung reciprocates with a miss of his own. The pace has slowed a bit. Garcia lands a nice kick, and another. Jung flies in with a big right. Garcia misses with a left. Garcia misses with a haymaker, spins himself around, and Jung jumps on his back. Garcia is able to somehow get out, but that could have been bad. Garcia lands a huge left that wobbles Jung, but he keeps pressing forward. Garcia throws a right that glanes off the top of Jung's head. Jung keeps the pressure on, hitting him with a high kick then a knee. Once again he's pouring it on! Garcia is hurt again but keeps on swinging. Now he lands a shot that backs Jung off. The bells sounds. Once again, ridiculous action. It's impossible to write it all down. Wow.

Round three: Five more minutes. I'm not sure I can even last at this pace. Jung now looks a little tired. Garcia senses it and puts the pressure on early. Garcia throws a high kick, followed by an inside leg kick. And another. Jung misses with a right. Both fighters trade wild (and errant) punches. Garcia lands a high kick, which seems to wake up Jung. A little break in the action as both fighters slow down. Garcia misses with a spinning heel kick. Jung now stalks garcia. Garcia lands a straight left and then a body kick. Jung explodes and catches Garcia with a nice one-two. Here they go again ... UNREAL. Both fighters are landing huge shots as the clock ticks down to one minute. Garcia lands a knee on the break. Garcia keeps moving forward, trying to steal the fight in the final seconds. Tremendous heart. They flurry as the horn sounds and then give each other a well-deserved hug. Tremendous fight. Completely awesome. I have no problem with either fighter getting the nod. One more round, anyone?

Alex Karalexis vs. Anthony Pettis (155-pound limit)

Round one: Here we go! Karalexis comes out pawing a jab and missing with a low kick. Pettis lands a Karate Kid-like switch kick, then a left-right combination that stuns Karalexis. He goes in for a takedown to shake off the cob webs, but Pettis is able to shuck him off. Pettis attempts another high kick, which Karalexis catches and uses to score a takedown. Karalexis works some decent ground and pound, but Pettis is able to make it to his feet rather quickly. Pettis lands a right to the jaw of Karalexi. And another. He throws another switch kick, which Karalexis blocks this time. Low kick from Pettis lands. Karalexis lands a nice right and shoots for another takedown. He doesn't get it, but lands a decent jab on the break. Pettis lands two nice leg kicks that nearly take Karalexis off his feet. Two more! Karalexis tries to close the distance to avoid the leg kicks and lands a partial takedown as the first round comes to a close.

Round two: Karalexis again comes out as the aggressor, dumping Pettis on his back to start the second. Pettis is able to escape again quickly and makes him pay with another low kick. But, again, Karalexis is able to score a takedown. Pettis angles for gogoplata, but Karalexis steps out to get a better position. He dives in again to work him on the ground, but Pettis throws on a lightning-fast triangle choke that is TIGHT! Pettis is punching him in the face and choking him out simultaneously. Karalexis can't get out ... he's fading. That's it! Karalexis has no other choice but to tap. Great finish for "Showtime" once again.
