Undefeated lightweight prospect Zack Micklewright (7-0) will make his second appearance under the WEC banner when he takes on veteran Alex Karalexis (10-4) at the upcoming WEC 48 pay-per-view on April 24 from the Arco Arena, in Sacramento, California.
MMAmania.com was informed of the pending match up by the Micklewright camp earlier today.
Micklewright made his promotion debut at WEC 45 last December, out-pointing Mushin Corbbrey to bring home the unanimous decision win. Prior to that, he made a name for himself by tearing through the competition in Iowa's Glory Fighting Championship from 2008-09.
He now takes a step up in competition against the well-traveled UFC veteran Karalexis.
"T-Rex" is perhaps best known for his stint in the inaugural season of The Ultimate Fighter. After a disappointing 1-2 run inside the Octagon, Karalexis moved to the Zuffa sister-promotion where he found better success.
The Boston native recently rebounded from back-to-back losses by stopping Greg McIntyre at WEC 39 last year. After suffering a hand injury that kept him out of action for the remainder of the year, Karalexis is back and ready to work his way back up the 155-pound ladder in 2010.
WEC 48: "Aldo vs. Faber" features a featherweight championship bout between the local fan favorite "The California Kid" Urijah Faber and unstoppable 145-pound champion Jose Aldo.
Also announced for the main card is a lightweight championship brouhaha between champion Ben "Smooth" Henderson and challenger Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone. Former featherweight champion Mike Brown will also take part in the event when he enters the cage opposite Manny Gamburyan.
