Undefeated and highly touted prospect Tyron Woodley has been slated to fight Karate specialist Tarec Saffiedine at Strikeforce Challengers 13 on Jan. 7.
This was the special announcement made tonight at the "Henderson vs Babalu" event.
Woodley is truly a home-grown talent for the world's number two promotion, having won five of his seven career fights under the Strikeforce banner. He was last seen absolutely obliterating Andre Galvao at the "Diaz vs Noons 2" event back on Oct. 9.
Saffiedine is another young up-and-comer that will represent a stiff test for the American Top Team product.
Saffiedine is a well-rounded martial artist, schooled in the disciplines of Shihiashinkai, Muay Thia and Brazilian jiu-jitsu. On the same night Woodley escaped with a split decision win over Nathan Coy, Saffiedine recorded the first knockout of his career against Nate Moore.
The "Sponge" has been improving greatly as of late with his takedown defense, something he will need against a highly credentialed wrestler like Woodley.
Strikeforce Challengers 13 is a currently unannounced event scheduled for Jan. 7 in Nashville, Tennessee. A heavyweight match-up between Daniel Cormier and Devin Cole is also set for the main card.
