Finally.
A long anticipated light-heavyweight championship fight has a date, as title holder Mauricio "Shogun" Rua will defend his belt for the first time when he takes on "Suga" Rashad Evans on March 19 at UFC 128 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
Sherdog.com brought word of the date and the venue late last night.
These two have been on a collision course since May when "Shogun" slayed "The Dragon" Lyoto Machida to win the title. Later that same month, Evans wrestled his way to a unanimous decision win over Quinton "Rampage" Jackson.
There have been a few speed bumps along the way though, namely knee surgery for the Brazilian and a strong sense of paranoia from "Suga" Rashad.
The waiting game will continue for the impatient challenger but at least a time has been determined and a war is coming to "The Shore."
Although this fight was originally reported to take place at UFC 128 in Abu Dhabi, it appears as if the UFC has backed off their claims of heading back to the Middle East. There's been no word on where that show will take place now.
UFC 129 has not been officially announced by the promotion but it is now expected that another light-heavyweight tilt originally scheduled for UFC 128 will be moved to the Jersey card.
Tito Ortiz is slated to make his return to the cage against Antonio Rogerio Nogueira in what could be "The Huntington Beach Bad Boy's" final fight in the famed Octagon.
