Jon Fitch thinks he's better than Jake Shields ...

... and should be fighting for the 170-pound title:

"I think I'm better than Jake (Shields), I think I should be fighting for the title, but I've been given a huge opportunity here to fight B.J. Penn and that's a big fight, belt or no belt. We're in a sport of selling fights right now, and the sport's growing, we're trying to get international, trying to get into every country, every household, and part of that is ticket sales is the idea that Jake Shields is coming over from Strikeforce with two belts. I understand that, it's a business decision."

Welterweight stalwart Jon Fitch at a press conference today held in Australia was inevitably asked about UFC newcomer Jake Shields and how he feels about getting passed up by him for another shot at division kingpin Georges St. Pierre. Naturally, the Indiana native isn't happy about it, but at the very least, understands the reason he's being leapfrogged. Is it fair? Maybe not, but a win over former welterweight champion and sure-fire Hall of Famer B.J. Penn would surely convince the fans, not to mention the decision-makers, that he's ready for another chance at the belt that has eluded him for so long. Or, does he need to somehow finish "The Prodigy" to drive that point home?
