Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is expected to make its return "Down Under" for UFC 127 at the Acer Arena on Feb. 27 (Feb. 26 via North American time zones) in Sydney, Australia.
MMA Fighting brought word of the news earlier today.
This will be the promotion's first trip to Australia since UFC 110: "Nogueira vs. Velasquez" back on Feb. 20. The event was a smashing success, setting an attendance record for UFC events outside of North America and earning a $2.5 million gate.
Cain Velasquez earned a shot at the UFC heavyweight title with his stunning knockout victory over Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira in the main event. The Mexican warrior would go on to capture UFC gold from Brock Lesnar at UFC 121 just last month.
The event also featured Australian natives George Sotiropoulos and Anthony Perosh as well as Australian resident James Te-Huna. Sotiropolous and Te-Huna both picked up victories.
Sotiropoulos defeated Joe Stevenson by unanimous decision, while Te-Huna earned a TKO win over Igor Pokrajac. Despite his efforts, Perosh came up short in his bout against Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic.
