When Valentijn Overeem went down with an injury this past week it was thought Strikeforce may not be able to find a suitable replacement for him on just seven days notice.
Problem solved.
The promotion announced today that Mike Kyle has agreed to step in to face Antonio Silva at the "Henderson vs Babalu" Showtime event set to air on Dec. 4 starting at 10 p.m. ET from the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri.
Kyle has won two titles in his last three fights, the XMMA and King of the Cage Light-Heavyweight Championships, and he hasn't lost a fight since Fabricio Werdum submitted him with a guillotine in August of 2009.
Although he's fought at heavyweight in his career, he's never faced a man the likes of "Bigfoot."
Antonio Silva has lost just two career fights and holds a black belt in both Judo and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He last lost a decision to the same man to most recently defeat Kyle, in Fabricio Werdum.
"Bigfoot" will be looking to take a big step towards a potential rematch with the only man to submit Fedor Emelianenko.
Strikeforce: "Henderson vs Babalu" has been ravaged by injuries but is still set to feature a main event of Dan Henderson taking on Renato "Babalu" Sobral in a rematch 10 years in the making. Also set for the card are welterweight brawlers Paul Daley vs Scott Smith and a middleweight showdown pitting Robbie Lawler against Matt Lindland.
Still no word on whether or not Strikeforce will be finding a replacement for the injured Herschel Walker.
