Icon Sport Middleweight Champion Kala "Kalohe" Hose (6-2) will be back in action against one-fight Alaskan Fighting Championships (AFC) veteran, Rolando Dominique (1-0) at the Blaisdell Arena in Honolulu, Hawaii, on August 2, according to MMAWeekly.com.
The bout, however, will be a non-title affair and be contested at a catchweight of 180 pounds.
Hose won the 185-pound gold in March after a thrilling fifth round knockout of Phil "The New York Badass" Baroni. The title was vacant after Robbie Lawler was unable to defend it on two separate occasions because of injuries.
The possibilities seemed endless for "Kalohe" after being crowned the champion of the Hawaii-based mixed martial arts promotion. In fact, MMA forums lit up with potential fantasy match-ups for the hard-hitting former heavyweight, but he lost a ton of that credibility when he was defeated by Robert "Bubba" McDaniel (11-4) on June 14 just 41 seconds into the first round of their non-title tilt.
ICON Sport immediately offered McDaniel a rematch for the title, but McDaniel declined, saying the belt belonged around the waist of a Hawaiian.
Hose is eager to get back into the win column and will have a good chance to do that against an inexperienced Rolondo Dominique. There isn't much out there on Dominique other than his first round technical knockout win over Ali Isaako (1-1) at AFC 34 in April.
Each of the champ's six victories have been by knockout. And this looks to be a fight set up for him to get his seventh. We'll see how game Dominique is come August 2.
No other fights have been announced for the event at this time.
