Recent high profile World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) featherweight acquisition, Alexandre "Pequeno" Nogueira (13-5-2), has been popped for having an illegal anabolic steroid (Boldenone) in his system following his technical knockout loss to Jose Aldo on June 1.
The California State Athletic Commission yesterday issued an announcement that the longtime Shooto 143-pound champion was fined $2,500 and will be suspended for 12 months for the positive test.
Nogueira had both his "A" and "B" samples independently verified at separate laboratories.
It’s certainly another setback for the Brazilian since his arrival stateside –- he was being discussed as a possible threat to Urijah Faber’s 145-pound crown. And despite the loss in his debut for the promotion, there was speculation that he would get to prove himself later on this year in a fight against Jens Pulver.
Those plans now appear to be on hold for quite some time.
