Carlos Moreno (5-2) and Carlton Haselrig (1-0) have signed to fight on the Elite XC under card for the May 31 network television debut on CBS at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., according to Sherdog.com.
Haselrig has had a very productive and accomplished career in sports. As a wrestler in college he was a three-time national champion in Division II and a three-time national champion in Division I. He is the only collegiate wrestler to hold that distinction, and one of few to ever defeat Kurt Angle in a college wrestling match.
Despite focusing primarily on wrestling in college and not playing any football, Haselrig was able to make the Pittsburgh Steelers team as an offensive lineman and by his third year was All-Pro at that position.
His mixed martial arts debut was last month at Battle Cage Extreme 4 where he was victorious over Shane Ott with a first round TKO.
Moreno is more of a striker. He has 4 (T)KO's to his credit. He fought four times last year, going 3-1 with his lone loss coming to Kevin Jordan by a submission because of strikes.
After a short stint on BET's "Iron Ring," Moreno is getting his first shot with a legitimate big time MMA organization in Elite XC. Haselrig presents a stiff test for a guy who is mostly a striker, but if Moreno can keep his distance and use his strengths, this fight could be a good one.
