Ricco Rodriguez vs. Jeff Monson to headline CFC event in England

Combat Fighting Championships (CFC) is putting together a card loaded with former UFC veterans for a show scheduled to take place at the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle, England, on Saturday, May 17 at 6 p.m. local time.

Former heavyweight champion Ricco Rodriguez will take on former number one heavyweight contender, Jeff Monson, in the main event of the evening.

Former 185-pound contender Terry Martin -- who is on a two-fight losing streak -- will also take on a former division contender, David Loiseau (who has lost four of his last five matches).

This news more or less confirms that Martin has been released from his UFC contract or has been granted a temporary leave to get his career back on track.

In other action, Melvin Guillard, Travis Wiuff, Brad Imes, Melvin Manhoef and others are also expected to compete on the card.

Karl Woolley, Combat FC's CEO, had this to say about the developing line up:

"Our matchmakers are dedicated to bringing the fans the fights they want to see and we know they won't be disappointed with this card. We have athletes, like Ricco Rodriquez, who have beaten some of the top names in MMA including Randy Couture and Andrei Arlovsk. We will continue to support the development of top athletes and competitions and are willing to work with and support companies that are dedicated to quality Mixed Martial Arts."

Color me interested. Stay tuned for more details.
