Newly-signed UFC lightweight Marcus Aurelio (14-4) will make his Octagon debut against the crowd-pleasing Clay Guida (21-8) at UFC 74: "Respect" on August 22, according to Sherdog.com.
Guida also confirmed this report with UFCmania that the bout is just about a "done deal."
Both fighters are looking to rebound from back-to-back losses despite impressive performances in their respective fights.
Aurelio is a former PRIDE FC standout who trains with American Top Team in South Florida. His record in the Japanese organization (3-3) is deceptive -- Aurelio is an extremely talented fighter who also holds a win over the 160-pound champion, Takanori Gomi.
The Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialist is not known for his power, but rather his fight-ending submissions. He's also never been finished, dropping all four of his losses via decision.
Guida has made quite a name for himself in the Octagon with his relentless and frenetic style. Unfortunately for him, it seems to only please the fans and not the judges. "The Carpenter" has been on the wrong side of two close decisions to Din Thomas (UFC Fight Night 8 ) and Tyson Griffin (UFC 72).
It's safe to say that a win for both fighters is important, making for what should be an entertaining action-packed fight.
Let's just hope for the sake of both fighters and the fans that this gets settled before the 15 minutes expire.
