On the eve of the biggest fight of his mixed martial arts career, UFCmania is proud to introduce NateMarquardt.com -- the official Web site of UFC middleweight contender Nathan Marquardt.
Nate is set to face UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva tomorrow for the 185-pound world title at UFC 73: "Stacked" in the main event of the evening.
For the past two months, UFCmania has been working with Nate to develop a site that showcases his impressive achievements, as well as gives his fans a destination to learn more about -- and discuss -- the impressive fighter.
Nate was very specific about what he wanted, from the management system to the navigation. He left it up to us, however, to make it a reality while he trained for his enormous showdown with Silva tomorrow night at the Arco Arena in Sacramento, Calif.
It took us a bit longer than we expected because Nate wasn't near a computer often, but we were able to tie up the loose ends this week while he sits and waits to capitalize on a life-long dream.
We're still not entirely finished -- but we figured it was good enough for showtime, considering the circumstances.
The idea for NateMarquardt.com came from an exclusive interview we conducted in January prior to his bout with Dean Lister at UFC Fight Night 8. During the conversation, I asked the reason he didn't have a site and Nate didn't have a real good answer.
I told him we'd be willing to help out, and a few months later, my phone rang and Nate said he was down. The rest is history.
And with a budget of $0 -- and barely enough time to maintain UFCmania -- I think it turned out rather solid.
But it doesn't matter much what we think, because Nate is thrilled and that's all that really matters to us.
I've had the pleasure of talking to Nate extensively over the last few months, in particular, these last two weeks. He's confident, excited and in the best shape of his life.
Nate has worked hard to be where he's at and if he wins the 185-pound title at UFC 73 this weekend, it really couldn't happen to a better guy.
Seriously.
So head over to NateMarquardt.com when you have some time and find out more about him -- he's got a great story.
This was a great -- albeit taxing -- experience for us at UFCmania. Our job isn't finished yet, but we hope you enjoy the site as much as we did creating it.
