UFC 76: Mike Swick to debut at welterweight?

Mike "Quick" Swick is tentatively scheduled to appear at UFC 76 on September 22 in Anaheim, Calif., according to the rumors section.

No potential opponent has been named just yet.

Since his loss to Yushin Okami at UFC 69 in April -- one in which he was clearly overpowered -- Swick has decided to test the welterweight waters.

It is therefore expected, based on recent statements attributed to him and other reports, that he will fight at 170 pounds at UFC 76 if the rumor pans out to be accurate.

UFC 76 will be held at the Honda Center -- the venue formerly known as The Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim -- according to a recent column from Carlos Arias at the Orange County Register. This was also the site of UFC 63: "Hughes vs. Penn" in September 2006.

Arias also suggests that it would be the ideal card to feature the rumored and long-awaited showdown between former light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell and former PRIDE FC middleweight champion Wanderlei Silva.

Here's a snip:

"[The trainer from Quinton Rampage Jackson] Juanito [Ibarra] speculated that UFC 76 would be perfect for Chuck Liddell vs. Wanderlei Silva. What a 1-2 punch that would be with Rampage and Henderson [at UFC 75] and Chuck vs. Wandy. It's just speculation. There is nothing concrete on that one."

I agree. But Las Vegas, Nevada, seems like the place where the monster showdown between the two MMA legends would happen.

That's just my two cents, which isn't even worth that much when it comes to picking fight locations.

Regardless, I'm extremely curious to see Swick debut at welterweight. I'm even more curious to see who the UFC puts in front of him.

Stay tuned.
