Former UFC middleweight champion Rich Franklin will look to stop the surging Dane, Martin Kampmann, in his next fight on June 16 in Ireland, according to Sherdog.com.
It's unclear at this time whether or not this is a UFC Fight Night special or a pay-per-view (PPV) event. However, with Forrest Griffin also a potential guest on the card against Hector Ramirez, it seems unlikely that it would be free on Spike TV.
That's pure speculation.
Both fighters are coming off of impressive wins at UFC 68 -- Franklin beat up Jason MacDonald and Kampmann choked out Drew McFedries.
At first glance, Franklin appears to have the edge in size, power and experience -- Kampmann has actually considered a drop down to welterweight. But, there's a reason figthers fight the fights -- anything can happen.
According to the report, we can expect an official announcement tonight during the UFC Fight Night 9 telecast.
With a win, Franklin will more than likely set himself up for a title shot against the winner of Anderson Silva and Nathan Marquardt at UFC 72.
Stay tuned for more updates on this situation.
