UFC 69, UFN 9, TUF 5 and UFCmania odds and ends

There's loads of UFC action on the horizon, beginning this Thursday at 8 p.m. with Ultimate Fight Night 9 on Spike television.

At 10 p.m. — immediately following the two-hour show — the fifth season of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) will debut, which will also be broadcast on Spike.

And last but not least, UFC 69: "Shootout," which features the welterweight title match between 170-pound champion Georges St. Pierre and challenger Matt Serra, will be available through pay-per-view (PPV) at 10 p.m. on Saturday, April 7.

Before all the shit hits the fan, I just want to briefly share what you can expect to find at UFCmania.com in the next few days.

Here we go:

UFC betting: Once again, our resident handicapper Desert Dog will be back to impart some of his MMA betting wisdom. He just informed me that he should have his write up and smart bets for the upcoming shows soon now that the betting lines are beginning to trickle out. Desert Dog has some solid insights on how to win cash — he was one of the few to recommend Randy Couture at UFC 68, in fact. Therefore, be sure to read his column and advice before heading over to BetUs.com and laying down some wood.

UFC predictions: Contrary to popular belief, our esteemed contributor Jesse Holland has not retreated to a dark hole in the Earth after our joint debut UFC 68 predictions column (and his lackluster performance). He's been keeping a low profile and playing Mr. Mom for the past few weeks. However, he's assured me that his nutsack is still intact and he is ready to redeem himself this weekend. Jesse and I will pass along our quick predictions, previews and analyses for UFN 9 and UFC 69 in the coming days.

UFC results: As usual, we will be online Thursday and Saturday nights, bringing you up-to-the-minute fight results. If your stuck behind a computer rather than a television, the best place to be is here, talking with others who share your plight. Or, if you're like me -- checking the computer and watching the fights at the same time -- please check in and share your two cents. Afterward, we'll also provide a nice round up of the action and provide some recaps.

TUF 5: Jesse will be hard at work late Thursday night/early Friday morning with a recap of the premier of TUF 5. He'll actually make this a weekly column, ensuring that you don't miss a single thing throughout the entire season. It'll be a great space to catch up on the action if you missed it, or discuss the episodes with UFCmania readers and fellow fight fans — don't forget to check it out.

Comments: Ahh ... the highlight of my day and the bane of my existence. During the last few weeks, it's been getting harder to moderate the growing number of comments from our readers. Believe it or not, I'm not chained to this computer and some comments slip through the cracks. As I've said before, the participation of our readers is what makes this site so great. But, the handful of jerks who slip in through the back window can also be what tears it down. Most of the time, there is intelligent, amusing and informed discussions going on here. The last thing I want to do is lose loyal readers and commenters because of a few dipshits ruining the experience. I also don't want to moderate each comment as they come in — it's a monstrous endeavor. So, we're in the process of upgrading the site and ultimately user profiles. There's no timetable for the rollout, but expect some nice changes in the next month or two. In the meantime, I'll do my best to police and moderate the site. If possible, do me and other site maniacs a favor and don't get baited into a meaningless online war of words — it's dumb.

That's all for now ... thanks — as always — for visiting.

And, don't forget to email us or share your thoughts in the comments section if you are experiencing any problems (on the site) or have some fresh ideas to make it better.
