Shogun signs four-fight PRIDE FC contract*

PRIDE FC has re-signed one of the most talented 205-pound fighters in the world, Mauricio "Shogun" Rua, to a four-fight contract extension, according to MMAWeekly.com.

In recent days, rumors swirled that the Brazilian agreed to a unique contract that would allow him to fight for PRIDE FC, as well as with the UFC.

That speculation turned out to be innaccurate.

However, Shogun's new contract may have been structured to accommodate a potential acquisition from the Fertitta brothers -- the majority owners of Zuffa, the parent company of the UFC.

Here's the snip:

"Shogun's new contract is with Pride FC, but if the company is indeed going to change hands (especially with everything pointing in that direction lately), it is likely that his new contract was structured so that it would be part of the Pride sale, and thus we could eventually see Shogun in the UFC. But until an actual sale does take place, Shogun is a Pride fighter."

Therefore, if the Fertittas do indeed purchase PRIDE FC for a rumored $65 million, it appears that Shogun will not be one of the the fighter contracts in question.

Neither would a future showdown with UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Chuck Liddell.
