UFC Ireland: June 30?

ufc ireland
In a dark bedroom in Nova Scotia, UFC lightweight and former The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) contestant, Jorge Gurgel, revealed in a weird interview with Sherdog.com that he will fight next on June 30 in Ireland.

Gurgel did not mention a possible opponent.

With UFC 71 scheduled for May 26 this could be the date for UFC 72. MMAWeekly.com has tentatively had the event scheduled in for July 7, but notes that the date is subject to change.

In previous interviews, UFC President Dana White has declared that he wants to hold at least four UFC shows in Europe this year.

And with UFC 70 confirmed for April 21 in Manchester, England, and a possible show in Ireland on June 30, White would be half-way to his goal half-way through 2007.

Also in the interview, Gurgel mentions that he would never fight friends Rich Clementi, Hermes Franca and PRIDE lightweight standout, Marcus Aurelio.

Why is that important?

Well, it really isn't. I just want to pass along a nice rumor also from Sherdog.com that Aurelio could be headed to the UFC after the PRIDE Lightweight Grand Prix later this year.

Here's the snip:

According to predictions, Marcus Aurelio won't have an easy start to the PRIDE Lightweight Grand Prix. According to several rumors, the Brazilian will probably face former Shooto welterweight champion Tatsuya Kawajiri in the opening round. Rumors also suggest that after this tournament the American Top Team fighter will join to UFC.
