Former UFC welterweight fighter Nick Diaz tested positive for marijuana after his surprising and sensational win over PRIDE FC 160-pound champion Takanori Gomi at PRIDE 33 on February 24, according to a report from Sherdog.com.
Here's a snip:
"Diaz has tested positive for marijuana following his stunning submission win over Takanori Gomi.... According to Nevada State Athletic Commission executive director Keith Kizer, Diaz is the only mixed martial artist tested on the PRIDE 33 card to return a positive result for a banned substance."
It was the PRIDE debut for Diaz and the Japanese promotion's second event in the United States. He shocked fans and critics with a rare gogoplata submission in the second round of an epic battle.
During the fight, Diaz suffered a cracked orbital bone and was medically suspended for six months. According to the article, the NSAC could suspend Diaz for another six months.
(This would not be a 12-month suspension, fyi, might read that way. He can get medically cleared within that six months).
But, with the next PRIDE show in America recently cancelled -- and the injury -- it doesn't look like he will be affected by any rulings or suspensions in Sin City.
Regardless, not good news for a guy who feels he is under appreciated and demands respect and recognition every time he opens up his mouth.
And he opens his mouth quite a bit for a stoner.
