Dana White is flying to New York "soon" to talk with ESPN executives about the worldwide leader in sports news increasing its UFC coverage, according to the Boston Herald.
I wonder if he realizes that ESPN headquarters is located in Bristol, Conn., and not New York?
Regardless, ESPN radio discussions, scattered interviews with the UFC president and other reports over the last few weeks and months have already hinted at this eventual reality.
However, it appears that ESPN is now closer than ever to finally giving its long-awaited -- and long overdue -- "mainstream" blessing of mixed martial arts.
Here's a snip from White:
"All the top meetings over there are about the UFC. When they start talking about this stuff on ‘SportsCenter,' that's really going to help us. That's going to help us get to the next level."
Indeed, catching UFC highlights, interviews and Kenny Mayne exclusives with fighters on SportsCenter would be must-see television.
It was only a matter of time before this happened. And, it looks like that time is sometime 2007.
Better late than never.
