UFC welterweights Diego Sanchez (17-0) and Josh Koscheck (8-1) will settle their feud once and for all at UFC 69 on April 7, according to MMAWeekly.com and WrestlingObserver.com.
In the run up to UFC Fight Night at Miramar in December — as well as in its aftermath — Koscheck was extremely vocal about his desire to rematch Sanchez as soon as possible.
During season one of The Ultimate Fighter, "The Nightmare" sent "Kos" packing after the semifinal match, which Diego won via split decision. Koscheck has waged his own PR battle since the loss, campaigning for another shot against one of the best 170-pound fighters in the UFC.
It looks as if he may have convinced a few people, most importantly, UFC matchmaker Joe Silva.
Sanchez is believed to be the next inline for a crack at current champion Georges St. Pierre (13-1), who is penciled in to fight Matt Serra (7-4) also at UFC 69 in Houston, Texas. He's coming off of a sensational knockout victory over Joe Riggs (25-9) at UFC Fight Night at Miramar.
Koscheck fought Jeff Joslin (5-3) that same night, outpointing the Canadian on all three judges scorecards. The former NCAA Division I wrestling champion was a perfect 4-0 in 2006 and is looking to keep the streak alive in 2007.
If this fight happens we'll finally get to see what Koscheck is made of against top competition. And, there will be no shortage of trash talking between the two fighters.
This would be a heated battle to say the least.
Sidenote: Sanchez was at UFC Fight Night 8 last night and was mobbed by a throng of fans. He didn't have time to talk, but he was kind enough to sign a UFCmania shirt. His girlfriend is slammin.'
