Hermes Franca (18-5) will fight Sean Sherk (31-2-1) sometime in July for his UFC lightweight title, according to Sherdog.com.
This is something we already knew prior to the fight, but it seems as though UFC President Dana White is has confirmed the match up.
Here's a snip:
Hermes Franca secured himself a lightweight title shot tonight, both by stopping Spencer Fisher and then pleading his case to UFC president Dana White.
A purple-haired Franca thrilled the hometown crowd (he is from Jupiter, Florida) last night, outstriking the striker with wild looping punches to earn a second round technical knockout.
It wasn't the prettiest boxing performance — often putting his head down and flailing — but it worked for Franca.
From my seat in the balcony, it looked like Fisher (19-3) was one well-timed knee away from dropping Franca. But, it never happened.
For the record, Fisher just didn't seem right last night. He appeared to be holding back and wasn't as aggressive as in the past. Not sure if he had knee problems or if he just had an off night.
Whatever. He'll be back, and so will Franca.
The Brazilian will have a decent amount of time to relax and prepare for Sherk, who is still recovering from rotator cuff surgery.
