Former light heavyweight contestant from season three of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF), Matt Hamill (2-0), will take on UFC newcomer Rex Holman (4-1) at UFC 68, according to InsideBayArea.com.
Here's a snip:
... [Hamill] will focus on his upcoming UFC match with Rex Holman on March 3, in UFC 68 to be held in Columbus, Ohio. The match can be seen on pay-per-view.
The news of this fight was buried in an article about Hamill — who is deaf — appearing at a California wrestling tournament for deaf high school kids.
Last week, UFCJunkie.com first reported that Holman would make his UFC debut at the Nationwide Arena.
Here's a snip:
... Rex Holman, a 1993 NCAA Division I national wrestling champion for Ohio State University, has just signed a three-fight deal with the UFC. The light heavyweight is slated to make his UFC debut on March 3 at UFC 68... Holman, who won his national title at 190 lbs., last fought on Dec. 8, beating Matt Hershberger at a Legends of Fighting event. His lone loss came to Matt Masterson at a King of the Cage event in December 2005.
Hamill, who was rumored to be facing David Heath (7-0) prior to the Holman announcement, will be fighting for the first time since outpointing a gassed Seth Petruzelli (5-3) at the Ortiz vs. Shamrock: The Final Chapter event back in October. He also beat castmate Jesse Forbes (1-1) at the TUF 3 Finale via technical knockout on June 24, 2006.
Both fighters are relatively inexperienced and have strong wrestling backgrounds. This fight has all the makings of a wrestling match, which is something that I'm certainly not looking forward to.
Who knows, it's mixed martial arts and anything can and does happen.
Just don't bank on catching this fight on the PPV telecast.
