Expect a new UFC video game to hit stores later this year or early 2008, according Variety.com.
THQ, which has introduced some sick fighting games in the past such as "WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2007," has been tapped as the publisher.
Here's a snip from the article:
THQ is already at work on its first UFC game, which, like most other sports vidgames, will feature real competitors. Though no titles have been announced, first game is likely to come in late 2007 or in 2008. It's expected to have a significant online component allowing players to compete against one another.
I'll take that to mean that I can serve up a few beatdowns to my old college roommates who are now scattered across the continent.
The previous UFC-themed games that I've played in the past, UFC: Throwdown and UFC: Sudden Impact, were nothing to write home about. It's good to see that the UFC has now hired a leading game publisher to facilitate some cutting-edge stuff.
THQ, in fact, signed a deal to "make UFC games for all console and portable platforms, as well as wireless devices" for the next five years.
Based on that, it looks like the games will be PlayStation, X-Box, etc. compatible.
I've got dibs on GSP.
