Prior to today, UFC.com has always waited as long as possible to announce the guests and content for its "Inside the UFC" programs on SpikeTV.
Sometimes, host Joe Rogan gives us a preview of what to expect next as he wraps up the show. I say sometimes because the information isn't always accurate.
Usually, we can expect to see a small paragraph on the homepage that details the program agenda for that particular evening.
So, when I checked UFC.com today – two days prior to the program -- I was a little thrown off by this:
This week on 'Inside the UFC', host Joe Rogan interviews Chuck Liddell, then interviews Randy Couture - who has a big announcement to make. Don't miss all the latest UFC news and more every Thursday night at midnight on Spike TV.
It's been widely rumored that Couture could come out of MMA retirement at some point this year. He's gone on the record several times saying that he is still interested in a return to Octagon, perhaps against someone like Tito Ortiz.
He's also appearing on the Pros vs. Joes program on SpikeTV this season. And, he does a lot of work with Marc Ratner.
I don't know what to make of it, other than to pass is along as out of the ordinary.
However, it's pretty easy to get a read on "big" announcements slated for airtime. I think the last "big" announcement was the Quinton "Rampage" Jackson fight — something that was unannounced, but well known for some time.
I find it hard to believe Couture would announce his comeback in that fashion — at midnite on a cable television program on a Thursday night, er, Friday morning.
Having said that, I hope I'm wrong.
